A dynamical model of remote-control model cars
Simple experiments for which differential equations cannot be solved
analytically can be addressed using an effective model that satisfactorily
reproduces the experimental data. In this work, the one-dimensional kinematics
of a remote-control model (toy) car was studied experimentally and its
dynamical equation modelled. In the experiment, maximum power was applied to
the car, initially at rest, until it reached its terminal velocity. Digital
video recording was used to obtain the relevant kinematic variables that
enabled to plot trajectories in the phase space. A dynamical equation of motion
was proposed in which the overall frictional force was modelled as an effective
force proportional to the velocity raised to the power of a real number. Since
such an equation could not be solved analytically, a dynamical model was
developed and the system parameters were calculated by non-linear fitting.
Finally, the resulting values were substituted in the motion equation and the
numerical results thus obtained were compared with the experimental data,
corroborating the accuracy of the model.Comment: 5 pages, 9 figure
Gaze orientation to evaluate object interaction in human functional assessment
of human activity for diagnosis and early detection of functional limitations” (EYEFUL, PID2020-
The purpose of this project is to develop an automated system for the objective evaluation of functional
limitations, which is part of the following research project: ”Multisensorial analysis of human activity
for diagnosis and early detection of functional limitations” (EYEFUL, PID2020- 113118RBC31).
On that research project, the OT wants to eliminate the subjectivity of the evaluator when he or she
is evaluating with the AMPS technique, which is a tool used to assess a person’s ADL. To achieve that
the following steps have been followed.
First, an introduction is added to address the project. Then, on the state of art section different
methods are compared with the purpose of choosing the best option for this project. On the next
chapter, the system’s workflow is explained, focusing on the interconnection between the different blocks
used on this project. The following section compiles the used databases and metrics on this TFM, as
they will be used in the results section. Finally, quantitative and qualitative results are added and some
conclusions are stated.
The challenge of this project is interconnecting all the layers used and achieving a good performance.
Also, it will be needed to adjust the different parameters of the used algorithms, as the default configuration
might not be the best option.Máster Universitario en Ingeniería de Telecomunicación (M125
Measurement of the inelastic pp cross-sections using the LHCb experiment and development of a new vertex detector
In this thesis, measurements of the inelastic cross-sections of proton-proton collisions at
centre-of-mass energies of \sqrt{s} = 5 TeV and \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV with the LHCb detector are
presented. The cross-section measurements are performed using pp collisions with at least one
prompt long-lived charged particle in the pseudorapidity range 2 2
GeV/c. The extrapolation to the full phase-space is also performed using the official LHCb
simulation generated using the Pythia 8 event generator.
During the second long shut down of the LHC (2018-2019), the LHCb experiment will be upgraded,
and all its subdetectors will be modified. Specifically, the Vertex Detector (VELO) will move from
silicon strips to silicon pixels. The new readout ASIC will be the VeloPix, a successor of the Medipix
family of ASICs. The Single Event Upset robustness of the Medipix3 chip, an ancestor of the
VeloPix, is studied in order to evaluated the radiation hardness of the VeloPix. Different beam tests
at a cyclotron facility were designed and performed with the subsequent data analysis.
Using the Timepix3, a successor of the Medipix3, a telescope was developed. This telescope was
designed to test the sensors and readout electronics prototypes for the VELO upgrade. The design
and the performance of this telescope under very high particle incident rates are also presented

Indirect test of M-S circuits using multiple specification band guarding
Testing analog and mixed-signal circuits is a costly task due to the required test time targets and high end technical resources. Indirect testing methods partially address these issues providing an efficient solution using easy to measure CUT information that correlates with circuit performances. In this work, a multiple specification band guarding technique is proposed as a method to achieve a test target of misclassified circuits. The acceptance/rejection test regions are encoded using octrees in the measurement space, where the band guarding factors precisely tune the test decision boundary according to the required test yield targets. The generated octree data structure serves to cluster the forthcoming circuits in the production testing phase by solely relying on indirect measurements. The combined use of octree based encoding and multiple specification band guarding makes the testing procedure fast, efficient and highly tunable. The proposed band guarding methodology has been applied to test a band-pass Butterworth filter under parametric variations. Promising simulation results are reported showing remarkable improvements when the multiple specification band guarding criterion is used.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Peer Reviewe
